Treat Tuesday: Doggie Bacon Strips

So we are back for another addition of Treat Tuesday. This week I decided to give Carter a reward and cook with one of his favorite things, BACON! These treats turned out better than I had imagined, and they work great for training because they are soft. I made a surplus of treats in order to give them to the girls I work with for their dog. Lets just say they were a huge hit. These treats are easy to make, and the dogs just seem to love them.

Doggie Bacon Strips

1 1/4 Cups Milk
1 Tablespoon Honey
1/3 Crumbled Bacon (I cooked my bacon in the oven, click here to find out how)
5 Tablespoons Bacon Fat
3 Cups Whole Wheat Flour

Combine the milk, honey, bacon and bacon fat, in  a bowl and whisk until combined.

Add the flour a 1/2 cup at a time, while stirring to incorporate.

Once the dough has formed knead until well combined.

Flour your work surface and a rolling pin.

Roll the dough into a 12" by 16" rectangle.

Cut the dough into 1/2" by 4" strips. You can either use a knife, like I did, or a pizza cutter

Place on a greased cookie sheet, and bake for 20-25 minutes. (I added a slight bend to the cookies to give them the look of bacon.)

Allow the Strips to cool for at least 30 minutes before giving them to your pooch.

The strips can be stored in an airtight container in thee refrigerator for up to a week.

These treats we a complete hit and I will be making them again, that is when Carter deserves an extra special treat. Next week we will be making homemade soft liver treats, they might sound interesting but they are the perfect treat for training because they stay soft. Look out for the recipe next Tuesday!

Love and Paws,
